What We Do Planting
Our Syed Ammal Pasumaipadai has been planting numerous saplings throughout the year in and around Ramnad.
- We wish that the plant should grow and prosper in all places of our district.
- The technique of planting trees needs special attention and technical knowledge otherwise the young plants are gradually paling, withering and dying.
- If the plant is not growing there may be many reasons. May be the plant is not protected or properly looked after. But our own negligence and incorrect method of planting is one of the causes.
- The areas to be planted are properly prepared for the new plants.
- Rain Trees (Thoongu Vaagi – in Tamil) can be planted in 30 feet circumference.
- Manjal Kondrai, Neem Trees can be planted in a 25 feet circumference and 20 feet place is suitable for Indian beach tree (Pungam Tree) and Avi.
- Less than 20 feet sarakkondari, May flower, Mahogany can be planted and 10 feet is suitable for Savukku, Nettilingam and Eucalyptus.
- Trees like Mahogany, Neermarthu, Kumil Thekku need much water.
- The trees mentioned so for can grow in any type of water even in brackish water.
- Loose soil (60% sand and 40% clay) helps the trees grow faster. The trees can grow in other soils but the growth is very slower when compared to loose soil.
- We never plant trees, the saplings like Teak, Red sandre. Sandal and semmaram in Ramanathapuram because the soil is not suitable and at the same time deficient rain is not sufficient for their growth.
Surprisingly, Mahogany and Kumil thekku grow very well in our dry land with a little amount of water particularly Mahogany stands in summer reason strongly.
